Depression and Anxiety
These terms are so mundane and common that probably there is no person who has not heard of them. In fact most of the people would have the experience of having suffered them. They are as commonly seen in people as they are heard.
Depression and anxiety are conditions that all of us go through. They are great levelers, in the sense that they spare none. Baring the newborns, everyone else, starting from children to teenagers to grown ups to celebrities and all other high and mighty fall in the grip of depression and anxiety.
In the day to day lives as well people go through various stages of depression as well as anxiety. There are two most common misconceptions in people about these two terms. First it is thought that depression and anxiety are common and widespread, hence they are normal conditions. They afflict everybody. But in truth they are abnormal conditions. These should not surface in a healthy mind. So they, contrary to popular notions, are mental ailments. The second misconception is that depression and anxiety affect a person as illness at the extreme level only. The truth is, be it a small or a large scale, an ailment is an ailment.
Depression and anxiety though uttered together signify two complete diverse meanings. While anxiety typically confines itself to the human beings, depression has a much wider range as it broadens its reach to diverse fields as economics, Mother Nature, and even the space. In other words nothing escapes depression!
Depression and anxiety though not normal are very rampant mental conditions. In the age of globalized competition where everyone is in a rat race to compete and excel, it is obvious that people fall prey to the devils of depression and anxiety. Most elderly people are found cribbing that life was easier in the earlier times. There were no complexities and hence people were unaware of the vices of depression and anxiety and other similar mental conditions. These mental states were there but they were not so much prevalent. People had time for each other. There were emotions, respect, and care among the people. In the present scenario, it is hardly possible to find time to socialize and maintain relations. Though emotions are still there but they are underplayed. In fact, in the present times, it is not possible to sit back and waste time. Success is important in life but success does not come easy. There is a cost for it - anxiety and depression. Since pressure to succeed is everywhere, right from pre primaries to the offices of MNCs the depression and anxiety are omnipresent. They have invaded every sphere of human life, be it a love life, addicts, would be or nursing mothers, and or other relations As long as a person is able to handle these conditions of his own its well and good but medical help must be sought when matters run out of hands.
