Q. What is Xanax?

Xanax is a type of Benzodiazepines, included in the Central Nervous System depressant class of drugs, used to treat GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), panic attacks with or without Agoraphobia and insomnia related to depression and phobia.

Q. How fast can Xanax give relief?

Xanax can offer relief to an adult within 1 or 2 hours after taking the first dose.

Q. Can I take Xanax during pregnancy or breast feeding or nursing?

Alprazolam is FDA category D, so it is harmful to unborn child. So let your doctor know if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby or become pregnant during Xanax medication.

It is not know if alprazolam passes through breast milk; however, a breast-feeding mother should not take Xanax without consulting the doctor. Nursing should not be undertaken while under Xanax medication, as the one who is nursing may feel drowsy at times due to Xanax's effect.

Q. Is there any age restriction for Xanax medication?

Yes. Xanax medication is not recommended below 18 years of age. And doctors prescribe a lower dose to the patients aged above 65 to avoid ataxia (Wobbliness, incoordination and unsteadiness due to brain failure) and sedation.

Q. Will Xanax affect my daily life?

It will not disturb your daily routine once you are settled with the Xanax medication. Give a few days to accept the body and experience how you are reacting to the medicine. Avoid driving and operating risky machineries. Once you are sure, you will be able to get along with the medicine and follow your routine.

Q. If I stop taking Xanax, or increase my dosage, will it be dangerous?

Yes indeed! You must not suddenly decrease or stop taking Xanax as severe discontinuation symptom may occur. Nor you should increase the dosage without doctor's advice that may result in mental and physical dependence on Xanax.

Q. What is the difference between Xanax and Xanax XR?

Xanax is prescribed once or twice a day and Xanax XR is formulated in such a way that the patient has to take it once a day only. So Xanax XR is called the extended release tablet.

Q. Is Xanax helpful in insomnia?

Yes. Xanax is helpful in depression, anxiety and panic related disturbance in sleep.

Q. What things should I care while taking Xanax/Xanax XR?

While taking Xanax, remember to abide by the dosage schedule. You should not crush, break or chew the Xanax XR. Avoid driving or operating any hazardous machinery just after taking Xanax medication.

Q. Can I take Xanax with food?

Xanax can be taken with or without food. Take Xanax exactly as prescribed by the doctor.
